Roof Flashings for North East, Yorkshire and North West Projects

Flashings & Fabrications

If you are roofing in the North East, Yorkshire or the North West, flashings are not a side detail. They are what keeps water out at the ridge, verge, abutment and sheet joints. We fabricate and supply metal roof flashings from our workshop in Newcastle upon Tyne, and we regularly send orders through to Durham, Teesside, Northumberland, Leeds, Sheffield, York, Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria.

This guide covers the flashings we make most often, where each one sits on the roof, and how to choose the right length, colour and accessories for a Northern job.

Why Northern weather puts flashings under pressure

Coastal wind on Tyneside and Teesside, Pennine rain, and freeze-thaw winters in Yorkshire all push water into poorly sealed junctions. A ridge that looks fine on a calm day can lift or leak once winter gales hit. That is why we favour plastisol-coated flashings for most outdoor work: the coating stands up to UV, rain and salt air better than a bare galvanised edge left untreated.

We keep popular colours in stock so a roofer in Newcastle, Middlesbrough or Bradford can match Merlin Grey, Anthracite, Goose Wing Grey and other common sheet finishes without waiting on a long special order.

Ridge flashings

The ridge is the highest point where two slopes meet. Our 130° ridge flashings are 3m long with 200mm x 200mm wings, which suits a wide range of pitched metal roofs. Fit them over the sheet crowns, keep the fall correct, and use foam fillers where the profile leaves open troughs.

For 32/1000 box profile, pair the ridge with our 32/1000 foam fillers at ridge and eaves. That blocks wind-driven rain and birds, which is a common complaint on agricultural and industrial sheds across County Durham and North Yorkshire.

Corner barge and verge flashings

Gable ends need a clean, weatherproof verge. Our 90° corner barge flashings finish the sloping edge and throw water clear of the wall. On exposed sites in Northumberland or the Pennines, fix at sensible centres and seal the laps. Colour caps over TEK screws keep the finish tidy if the client cares about appearance from the road.

Abutment and upstand flashings

Where a roof runs into a wall, you need an upstand. Our 90° upstand abutment flashings cover that junction. On brick or block walls, the upstand should tuck into a chase or sit under a cover flashing so water cannot track behind the metal. This detail turns up constantly on lean-tos, extensions and plant rooms from Gateshead through to Greater Manchester.

Drip trays

On longer slopes where sheets join end-to-end, a drip tray flashing under the joint catches water that would otherwise drip into the building. Useful on warehouses and farm buildings where a single sheet will not cover the full run.

Custom flashings when the drawing is not standard

Many Northern industrial and agricultural roofs are not textbook. Odd pitches, old abutments, and plant platforms all need made-to-order metalwork. Our custom and bespoke flashings service covers non-standard angles and sizes. Send a sketch, dimensions or a template and we will fabricate from Newcastle for delivery across the North.

Accessories that finish the job

Flashings alone do not seal a roof. Most orders from trade customers include:
